Katharagama temple

Kiri Vehera at Kataragama

Kiri Vehera at Kataragama in the southern province is a prominent place for Buddhists. This temple is believed to have been built by King Mahasena in 6th century BC. This stupa is among the 16 most sacred pilgrimage sites of ancient Sri Lanka which is known as 'Solosmasthana'.

Vedahiti Kanda

Before reaching the Maha Devalaya, a range of mountains is visible on the right. Among them is the holy mountain known as Vedahiti Kanda, the abode of the God Kataragama. Surrounded by a verdant valley, the climb to the summit is especially picturesque, with a panoramic view from the top, and can be reached in approximately two hours.
